For the Love of Spooky Season!
Existing in an online space filled with fantasy, spooky-loving girlies, I knew exactly where to go to post a handful of spooky-season-related polls. I had questions and I wanted answers. And this particular group of fantasy, spooky-season-loving girlies did not disappoint.
As we come to the end of the first of the ‘ber’ months, and I was putting this issue together, the same question kept coming back to me: why do we love this time of year so much?
With our senses and our screens flooded with so many of the things that make this season what it is – Halloween Eve… amiright? – I wanted to know what, exactly, made up this particular love affair. What are the things that really do it for us? The films, tv shows and activities that make us collectively lose our minds for this particular stretch of the year?
You came through and here are the results!
Of course, as soon as I posted the polls, other possible options came to me - how did I miss New Moon - and so I did the only thing I could to redeem myself, I posted a ‘what did I miss’ post in the same online space. The outcome of which is that I now have a list of new must watches that I’m excited to work my way through this spooky season.
What came back from this small-scale investigation was a glorious mix of the obvious, the oddly specific and the deeply relatable. There were answers I expected, answers that made perfect sense once I saw them, and a few that made me think, ohhh, so it’s not just me then.
And with all that said, somewhere between the candles, the crisp mornings, the books, the blankets, the ghosts and the questionable amount of pumpkin-spiced everything, we’ve collectively built a season that hits a surprisingly large number of buttons.
